Warren State Hospital Cemetery Restored

Warren State Hospital
The 954 grave cemetery at Warren State Hospital has been the subject of a restoration. Like many state hospital cemeteries, this one was overgrown and neglected until a restoration committee formed at the hospital in 2006. Employees and volunteers are just about finished with the painstaking task of identifying the deceased patients and giving each one a headstone with their name on it.

There will be a public rededication ceremony at 10:30AM on Friday, September 26. More information can be found here: Silent Witnesses

Good to see a hospital do something to preserve it’s cemetery instead of hiding it! Unfortunately when there’s talk of preservation these cemeteries get left behind. The saying “Forgotten in life, forgotten in death” sometimes is too true sadly.

I am seeking the final resting place of a man named Joe Root. He was admitted to WSH June 14th 1910 from Erie and died October 29, 1912.I think he was born in 1860. I have not found his name among those burried WSH. Today I was give word that a cemetery also existed over looking WSH near a place call Jackson Run Road. Perhaps Joe is there. Was this cemetery part of the restoration? It was reported to date back to 1881.I have already made a formal request of OMHSAS/ Dr. Altenor to assist me. No word yet.

A local historian asserted that Joe Root was most likely to have been sent to Philly for scientic use when he passed away at Warren. Then he would have been burried at the Odd Fellow Cemetery. It seems that these graves have since been moved. This account seem to be correct as all other paths have lead no where. Rest in Peace Joe.

There is a fairly large cemetery on Jackson Run on a quiet hillside. These folks are not forgotten completely. Every time i drive past this place i feel sad to think that so many souls who suffered so in life have not been buried near loved ones but i think of them and wish them better things on the other side.

Does anyone know where the people who died at the insane asylum in jackson, ms were buried in the late 1880’s early 1900’s?

I am interested in learning about the State Hospital Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN. More specifically, the location and record of a relative who is buried in this cemetery, according to his death certificate. This inquiry is for genealogical purposes. Thank you.
