Worcester State Almost Hits the Big Time
According to this article in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Worcester State Hospital came “this close” to being featured in an upcoming Martin Scorsese film. Unfortunately, scheduled demolition of buildings at WSH prevented that from happening. Too bad. It would have been nice to see the Worcester Kirkbride featured in a film.
I’ve heard that Worcester actually was featured in a movie already though. I haven’t seen this movie for myself yet, so I’m not sure. More on that when I eventually track down a copy.
The article makes sure to note that the Clocktower isn’t going to be demolished. It sounds like it’ll just be a few of the less interesting buildings that will be demoed. It’s not clear what the fate of the remaining wing will be though. Time will tell, unless someone in the know leaves a comment with that information…
ugh this makes me SO angry to hear about these beautiful buildings and pieces of history being torn down! it just isn’t fair!
these places are expensive to maintain and secure. while it would be nice to preserve them, it is impractical to say the least. besides, in 100 years, nobody will care.
I agree that expense and practicality are a concern. I’m not sure about nobody caring in 100 years though. It’s possible, but I think there’ll still be interest and admiration for these places, and maybe some regret that a few of them weren’t preserved.
